I know I said it was coming, but I didn't expect it this quick
I said in the LGF that I was going to have to deal with the end of my smart buy on the Ion this month. I ended up going over to the Saturn dealer in Joliet to talk about my options and see what would end up being the cheapest method.
With 1000 down, these were my options:
Demonstartor 09 Astra, black, manual transmission, fairly decked out, 4k miles. 255/month 72 months.
(Current) 05 Ion-2, silver, manual transmission, baseline except for cd player and air, nearly 80k miles). 240/month 48 months.
Used '07 Ion-3, blue, auto transmission, nearly every option availalbe at that time, just under 27k miles. 220/month 72 months.
Waiting to make a decision wasn't really an option, as every mile I put on the '05 meant $0.15 in penalty. I decided to give both the '07 ion and the demonstrator astra a try.
The Ion handled exactly like the "Current" car, except automatic. I kept going for the clutch and the gear shifter. Luckily the salesman knew EXACTLY what I was going through with it, and we had a good laugh during the drive. Overall, I liked what I saw, but still wanted to give the Astra a drive.
And it wasn't too bad. I'd heard some people had issues with it's get up and go, but it did fine in the quick drive around the block. I LOVED the gearshifter and how soft the clutch was, but the size of the car and lack of cup holders really drove me back to the Ions.
At that point it was do I want to stay with the 05 high mileage manual ion-2 that I was in for four years, or jump to the 07 with 50k less miles, and a whole lot more options, but automatic and a bit cheaper. After upping my down payment to 1500 (out of the emergency fund, thanks to loaning my parents that grand yesterday), they rand the numbers on the '07.
209.32 per month. By my banking rules, 210. Take a guess what I did.

So yeah, newer car. Kristen called it an impulse buy, but wants to see it. I just went with the best overall option.
Oh here's some bonus pictures of a few different things.
